What is a publicly traded company?

Public companies have shares available to the public and are traded on a stock exchange or market. Unlike private companies, public companies are required to file with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Therefore financial statements and other company information is available for public view.

How do I find a company?

Go to AnnualReports.com - search by company name or industry.

How can I tell if my company is publicly traded?

Visit Yahoo! Finance - http://finance.yahoo.com

Use the Symbol Lookup link at the top of the screen. Enter the company name. If the company has publicly traded stock, Yahoo! Finance will retrieve the ticker symbol. If it is not publicly traded, then you will get a message saying there were no matches.
