From the U.S. Commercial Service (Dept. of Commerce). U.S. Export Assistance Centers in over 100 U.S. cities facilitate U.S. businesses in exporting American products abroad. Provides support/links to trade outlets in many countries, as well as profiles for most of these countries. Best official source for researching and connecting to trade resources abroad.

EIB is the "official export credit agency of the United States." "Does not compete with the private sector ... but provides export financing products that fill gaps in trade financing." 85% of transactions " directly benefit U.S. small businesses". Best official source for federal financial assistance to exporters.

From the International Trade Association (ITA). "Details the ... effects of international trade on all 50 states'economic infrastructures", including data on jobs, number of companies involved in exporting, impact of foreign investment on a state's economic infrastructure, and more.

From the U.S. Census Bureau. Provides data for various trade issues, including country/product trade data, state export data, "trade highlights". Best place for accessing official trade data on countries and states.

Also includes data on demographics, economics, state government. Best resource for quick information on a state's trade activity. From the Lockwood Library at SUNY Buffalo. While database/print resources are discussed, most of the content is on the Internet: trade-related government agencies, treaties, statistics, trade classification and more. Excellent annotations. Very user-friendly and one of the best academic guides of its kind.

ITA, affiliated with the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, is a broad-based portal for many aspects of U.S. trade. "Trade Topics"" links to over 30 topics dealing with basic trade (tariffs, market access, etc.), exporting, compliance and enforcement. FAQ is helpful. One of the best sites to begin research on many aspects of U.S. trade.

An affiliated agency of the International Trade Administration (ITA), the TCC is the federal "focal point for monitoring foreign compliance trade agreements to see that U.S. firms and workers get the maximum benefits from these agreements". Links to all exisiting trade agreements. Most useful official site for researching trade agreements and dealing with unfair trade practices.

From the University of Colorado Library, Boulder. Links to U.S. government information. Also links to international information and non-governmental trade resources. Excellent annotations. A great place for overview of "the basics"; especially useful for anyone beginng research.

From the Executive Office of the President. "Responsible for developing and coordinating U.S. international trade, commodity, and direct investment policy, and overseeing negotiations with other countries". Links to trade agreements and provides country profiles (trade balance, export/import). Best official resource for national trade policy.

"Your one-stop guide to business environment indicators, laws and World Bank Group project information for 183 countries". Each sountry "snapshot" includes rankings (ease-of-doing business, regulatory atmosphere, country credit rating, political risk), quantitative data, projects with the World Bank, if any. Outstanding resource, especially for rankings/data.

From Boston University Libraries. Profiles of over 130 countries. Each profile links to sites for "Finance, Trade & Commerce," "Statistics & Government Resources," "News & Journals". Databases are restricted to the BU community, but available in many academic libraries. Also links to regional resources. Does an excellent job for the countries it covers.

Links to meta-sites for both country/region-specific information. Excellent annotations. Not comprehensive but a very useful resource for what it covers.

"Provides effective measures of business regulations and their enforcement across 185 countries and selected cities". Each country is analyzed/ranked on 10 criteria (starting a business, "dealing with licenses," "paying taxes, etc." Outstanding; this is the best free resource for official information on a country's regulations/procedures for conducting business.

From the Federation of International Trade Associations. Profiles business/economy/trade for over 100 countries. Links to sites (mostly official) for general economic overview, opening a business, investing, travel and more. Outstanding; one of the best free sites of its kind; also includes an extensive array of additional trade-related data and practical information.
