Tips for an Up-to-Date Grade Center

1. Enter grades, including zeros, within 7 days of the due date via the Full Grade Center using:

  • Columns manually added to the Grade Center.
  • Columns linked to digital assignments or tests in content areas.

2. Use calculated columns to setup a % Grade to Date column that shows students their current course average. Tip: add the evaluative criteria from the syllabus to the description textbox in the calculated column.

3. Add the Letter Grade to Date column to show students their current letter grade according to the grade scale.

For Grade Center resources, please view the newly organized and updated IDT Grade Center Resources page.

ulearn Tip - Green, Orange & Red Dials

Throughout your course, you will see green, orange, and red dials next to content items. These dials indicate the number of accessibility issues found with the content item with red being the most issues and dark green being perfect. Providing accessible course materials is critical for our students.

If you see red or orange dials next to an item, click on the colored dial to view the types of accessibility issues and guidance about how to fix the issues. To fix some of the common accessibility issues, please refer to the following guides.

Ensuring an accurately setup Grade Center and Accessible course content can be a lot of work for faculty. Let IDT help - we can provide a Grade Center check or look at a low accessibility-scoring file to try and improve its accessibility. Email idt@jwu.edu or call 401-598-2389 for all your course support needs.

Classroom Troubleshooting

Podium monitor is blank or displaying “no signal”:

  • Check to ensure the monitor screen is powered on, power button is located on the bottom right corner of the bezel and should be lit up white or green if the monitor is powered on.
  • Open the front door of the podium and check to ensure the PC inside is powered on, there will be a white power light at the top of the PC tower if so.
  • Sometimes the PC will be powered on but asleep. Moving the mouse or hitting any key on the keyboard should wake it up if this is the case.

Unable to Log In to the Podium:

  • Ensure that the podium has active internet access by looking for this icon in the lower right corner of the login screen:

If this icon is displayed, then the podium has an active internet connection and the inability to log in may instead be account or password related.

TV/SmartBoard/Projector will not display:

  • Confirm whether the device is powered on or not. TVs will usually have a “no signal” message, Smartboards and projectors will light the bulb up and display a default splash page, and may also have a message noting lack of connection.
  • Power the system down by selecting “Power off” on the button/touch panel.
  • After the power button stops blinking red (button panel) or the default JWU logo is displayed (touch panel), choose the option to “use the podium PC” again, this will power on the system and reconnect.

TV/SmartBoard/Projector will not power on:

  • TVs and Smart Boards can be manually powered on if necessary. On Smartboards, the power button is located in the bottom right of the screen and should display a solid green light if properly powered on. The power button on most of our TVs is located on the right hand side either underneath the screen bezel, or around the back of the screen (on some TV models it is a joystick type button).
  • If the “Podium PC” option is already selected on the button/touch panel, the display should sync up when powered on, but it is sometimes necessary to power the system off and on again using the button/touch panel in order to sync it properly.

Display not duplicating Podium screen:

  • If the image shown on the TV/Smartboard/Projector screen does not match what is on the podium screen, you can hold the “Windows logo” key on the keyboard and then press the “P” key. This will open up a side menu where you can change the project settings. Most often the option for “Duplicate” should be selected like so:

No Sound Playing:

  • If no sound is playing through the speakers, first check to ensure the sound is not muted or set too low on the touch/button panel. For a touch panel, tap on the volume + button, for a button panel adjust using the built in volume knob.
  • If sound is still not playing, locate the sound menu button in the bottom right corner of the PC screen and click to open the sound menu:

  • You can also adjust the PC volume levels here and ensure they are not set too low by moving the volume slider up.
  • In the top of this window will be the currently selected audio output. This option should be set to “Crestron Audio”. If it is not, then you can click on the current audio selection and an additional option menu will open up where you should be able to select “Crestron Audio”.
