- Therapist-assisted, online (TAO) intervention for anxiety in college students: TAO outperformed treatment as usual.How can time spent conducting individual psychotherapy go farther? How can psychotherapy make effective use of ubiquitous smartphones, tablets, and laptop computers? Traditional hour-long, face-to-face therapy is effective, but it cannot meet the demand in many mental health sectors and fails to capitalize on emergent communication tools. There is a need for new treatments that are effective but more efficient. Individual treatment that uses online components to reduce, not eliminate, direct contact with the psychotherapist was first used and proven effective in several other countries. It now is being implemented and researched in the United States.

Found that soon-to-be-divorced families demonstrated higher rates of preschool-age behavior problems, and already-divorced families showed similar trends. Parental conflict and behavior problems accounted for pre-divorce child-behavior-problem differences.

- Expanding the Therapy Paradigm with Queer Couples: A Relational Intersectional Lens.Clinical assessment and conceptualization of queer couples still lack the complexity needed to encompass the issues involved in treatment. Existing literature provides clinicians a basic understanding of queer couples and the dynamics that make them unique from nonqueer couples. However, much of this knowledge has been normed on White middle-class couples and has rarely included couples with transgender or bisexual members.
- Interracial Couples in Therapy: Common Themes and Issues.Different racialized histories and experiences set interracial couples apart from other dyads, and can influence the types of problems that they encounter in their relationships. Given the challenging history of intergroup relations between races, a distinction is drawn between problems which are common to all couples (i.e., negotiating gender roles, poor communication, disagreements over financial management, and intimacy issues) and problems that are unique to interracial couples (i.e., managing societal disapproval, managing the effects of racial privilege).

- Pregnancy resolutions among pregnant teens: termination, parenting or adoption?Teenagers are unprepared to face or to deal with an unexpected pregnancy. Adolescents do not necessarily possess the cognitive ability needed to clearly evaluate such a situation or to determine how to resolve their pregnancy. This study seeks to shed light on what pregnant adolescents consider when coming to a decision about what to do about their pregnancy.
- Understanding Qualities of Positive Relationship Dynamics Between Adolescent Parents and Their School-Based Counselors.This study used phenomenological methods to explore the experience of pregnant and parenting adolescents in a positive therapeutic relationship with a school counselor. Themes that emerged from semistructured interviews conducted with 36 adolescents in a teen parenting program identified relationship characteristics that strengthen the bond between the teen and his or her counselor. Supporting emotional well-being reflects the support system and safe environment counselors provide students to discuss problems.
- Depression and treatment with inner city pregnant and parenting teens.Between a quarter and half of pregnant adolescents are estimated to be depressed (Beardslee et al. 1988). Two recent open clinical trials found significant drops in depression levels among pregnant and newly parenting inner city teenagers after 12 weeks of Interpersonal Psychotherapy modified for pregnant teenagers (Miller et al. submitted). The current study addresses the nature of and contributors to participants’ depression, and the active ingredients in their healing.

Children of teen mothers are at risk for adverse psychosocial outcomes. When adolescents are strongly attached to parents, schools, and positive peers, they may be less likely to repeat a pregnancy. This study tested the efficacy of a counseling intervention delivered by cell phone and focused on postponing subsequent teen pregnancies by strengthening healthy relationships, reproductive practices, and positive youth assets.
- Abbreviated Upright Behavioral Relaxation Training for Test Anxiety among College Students: Initial ResultsEffect of abbreviated upright Behavioral Relaxation Training (BRT) on two self-report measures of test anxiety was examined using a quasi-experimental pre-post between groups (N = 20) research design with self-referred college students.
- The School Counselor Perspective: Preparing Students to be College and Career Ready within a Comprehensive School Counseling Program.The preparation of students to be college and career ready is a main goal for many school counselors, teachers, administrators, and parents. In the present-grounded theory study, five school counselors were interviewed to discover their experiences with counseling in a school that is implementing a comprehensive developmental school counseling program and that also promotes 21st century learning, with an emphasis on college and career readiness. The findings are explained through the conditional/ consequential matrix, and reveal that counselors have diverse views on their own preparation and perceptions of the school counselor role, common core, data-driven assessments, as well as career and technical education, which are all interdependent with the comprehensive school counseling model.
- Entering college student's preparation for self-regulation.Queried parents of an entering freshman class by written questionnaire regarding the areas in which they gave their children experience in self-regulation prior to college, and their expectations about the controls the college would exercise. Results reveal an interaction of sex of child and area of behavior both with regard to experience at home and expectations regarding campus controls.
- "What my Guidance Councillor Should Have Told Me": The Importance of Universal Access and Exposure to Executive-Level AdviceOften, knowledge and quality education is reserved for the elite, where there are systemic obstacles to gaining access to today's leaders. Gender and racial inequities in executive-level positions across North America have been a longstanding debate amongst scholars and policy makers. Research has consistently documented that women are disproportionately represented in upper management and in positions of power and still continue to dominate traditionally "female" occupations, such as administrative support and service workers.
- Examining How the Adlerian Life Tasks Predict Anxiety in First-Year Counseling Students.The authors examined how the five life tasks of Adlerian theory predicted anxiety in 183 entry-level counseling students using the Five Factor Wei I ness Inventory (5F-Wel). Data was collected on beginning counseling students for three years from four separate master's-level counseling programs across three different regions in the continental United States. Results found four significant predictors of anxiety.
- STRESS INOCULATION TRAINING IN ADOLESCENTS: CLASSROOM INTERVENTION BENEFITS.The present study was conducted to explore the efficacy of Stress Inoculation Training (SIT) in adolescents, as compared to classroom counseling on stress related topics, and to no counseling at all. Three groups of adolescents participated in the study, and responded to questionnaires measuring perceived stress, type of anxiety as a response to stress, and global and current self-esteem.

- Anger Management Leadership Groups: A Creative Intervention for Increasing Relational and Social Competencies With Aggressive Youth.School counselors (SCs) have a wide range of responsibilities in schools, such as administrative, disciplinary, and counseling duties (Dahir & Stone, 2009). Due to the large number of responsibilities, SCs sometime struggle with developing programs to meet relational needs of at-risk students. The purpose of this article was to provide SCs with a creative, hands-on approach to use with youth struggling with anger and relational issues.
- Factors linking childhood experiences to adult romantic relationships among African Americans.. The current study builds on this foundation by identifying particular competencies expected to explain the association between childhood exposure to supportive and harsh parenting and later patterns of interaction with romantic partners. Specifically, we examine anger management, attachment style, hostile attribution bias, and self-control as potential mediators using prospective, longitudinal data from a sample of 345 African American young adults.
